Quick hello from Washington. Where it's raining. It's sunny in Madison. How unfair is that!
We had an awesome flight down. Lucas was just the bestest behaved boy in the world. When we got to security he immediately sat down and took his boots off, without any prompting. Maybe he's been on too many flights.... I think this one was his 30th or something. Then he sat in his chair the whole flight and watched a video and read his book. I even got to read the paper. Amazing.
He made up for it in the evening of course. We joined a whole bunch of colleagues in an Ethiopian restaurant and as soon as we got there Lucas decided he wanted to leave. A major tantrum, a broken glass, and a soaked jacket later he managed to sit still for about 10 minutes. Not the most relaxing meal of my life :-). The three bites of food I managed to eat were really good though.
This morning we went out in the rain. We walked round the Capitol and then took the underground choo choo train to Dupont Circle. A friend had recommended that but as it was bucketing down when we got there we just went for a coffee and took the train back (the train being an attraction in itself, especially for 2-year olds). I thought we could go swimming in the hotel but now it turns out the pool is closed for refurbishment. The nanny is coming in an hour so I can actually go and do some work, I'm pretty nervous about leaving him with a stranger but she is affiliated to the hotel so it should be alright.
Undisputed highlights of Washington so far (from Lucas' point of view): the ice machine in the hotel, and chasing the pigeons at Union Station. :-D
