So much to learn!

Wow. This week it's been the real thing. Get up around 7, try to get out of the house for 8.15, drop Lucas at daycare (he is settling in SO well, little trooper, and has only hit his carer once so far lol), take the bus into work etc etc. On Tuesday when the whole world was glued to their tv sets I was in Benefits 101, a course designed to tell us about our health care plans etc. Interesting but shame to miss the Big Event in Washington live. There were endless repeats of course.

We are still staying with Lucas' grandma which means that at least so far I have not had to do any hoseholdy things like shopping, cooking or laundry. However, next week it's gonna be all go chez Du Perron as we move into our own place tomorrow. Details will be sent out by email. Pics above. I also got my 'new' car yesterday, a really solid mover though not the gas-guzzler I had secretly been hoping for. Even at low prices I can't afford them! Blame the childcare bill.

This morning I went to get my Social Security number. Without that you don't exist in the US and I can't even get a cell (or, as you folks say, mobile) phone. I also went to apply for my Wisconsin driving licence (or license as they say here, it's just all so confusing) cause with that I can save mega bucks on my car insurance. I have to take a knowledge and a skills test. YIKES!!! Guess I'd better learn the speed limits and figure out how to do a hill start in an automatic. The information leaflet says that you have to demonstrate ability to parallel park "if a parked vehicle is available". Yes this is Wisconsin! No guarantee there will be a car anywhere near you. Here's hoping.

Job is going really well, I still feel totally overwhelmed by everything but expectations are low as people realise I need time to settle in. I am enjoying the learning process, and my colleagues are nice.
