Happy Easter 2010!!

Easter Sunday! We've had a lovely Easter weekend, Good Friday is not technically a holiday in the US (nor is there such a thing as Easter Monday) but the whole University shut down as part of their money-saving strategies, so I did get a long weekend. On Friday Lucas and I painted eggs, and on Saturday we went on an Easter Egg Hunt organised in a garden centre about half an hour from my house. It was low-key but good fun, and included a visit from a pink Easter Bunny. I also picked up some nice flowers while we were there, which is no doubt why they hold it in the first place. Saturday evening we had our first of three Easter meals, dinner with my friend Kathy. She had made a great dinner which even Lucas enjoyed! (no greens - always a good idea when feeding a 3-year old.) This morning we had our second Easter meal, brunch at my friend Mitra's house. Lucas spent the morning searching for and eating chocolate eggs and catching up on Simpson DVDs. Late afternoon we cycled over to Grandma's (more on my bike in a minute), searched for more eggs, ate more chocolate and also had a fantastic Easter dinner. So we certainly celebrated in style!

Since I got my bike and trailer a few weeks back I've been cycling a lot. The last 2 weeks we've had gorgeous weather in Madison so that makes it a pleasure to be cycling along. It's also great to have exercise a part of my daily routine rather than something that I have to make time for. In the morning I cycle Lucas to school, leave the trailer there ad cycle to work. I then do the whole thing in reverse in the evening. There are some pretty steep hills around so I am learning to work the gears as well as flexing my leg muscles! Lucas has rather annoyingly learned about stop signs in school, so when he sees one he shouts directions from behind me, and woe is me if I decide the road is clear and I'm not going to stop. Lots of people smile at us as we bike past, sadly I think it's not me they are smiling at as much as the little person giving a running commentary on his surroundings from his chariot. Last week we were lucky to catch the train at the railroad crossing, but Lucas dislikes the woo-woo noise and so firmly put his hands over his ears as the train went by.

Other outings have included a visit to a lambing farm - no sooner had I spent $7 on entrance to the barn or Lucas decided the whole lambing thing was boring and where were the tractors? -,various playdates with friends and time at the community centre playing soccer and basketball. Last week I had an all-day conference and so Lucas went home with his best friend Teddy, the blond boy in the picture of Lucas reading with his friends at school. Lucas is so enamoured of Teddy (who is 5) that the very next day he again asked to be going to "Teddy house". Next weekend we'll be going on our waterpark outing - I am so excited!!
